Acropolis and Parthenon...Greek Architecture you must see

Acropolis

Acropolis

The Acropolis is one of the most important sites of the ancient world and was the most important location in Greek mythology. Atop the hill sat a temple complex that included the temples to worship all major gods. The Acropolis was chosen in ancient times for its prime location high above the city. From there, the temples were visible from anywhere in Athens. Today some temple ruins remain, including the most famous of them all, the Parthenon.

Parthenon

Parthenon

The Parthenon is perhaps one of the most famous ruins in all of Greece. Built almost 3,000 years ago, the temple was constructed for Athena, the goddess of war, who was also considered the patron of Athens. Each side of the Parthenon shares a story with hand-carved statues. One side shows the Greeks and centaurs. Other areas show Athena at birth, fighting Poseidon for Athens, and Greeks parading for Athena. The Parthenon has since suffered severe damage and decay, but the importance of the temple in ancient Greece is not lost!

Greek islands: for the NATURE lovers

Ikaria

Ikaria has some of the World's most pristine and untouched nature territories. It has been identified as a place that promotes life longevity and better overall health.

Koufonisia

Koufonisia is comprised of two islands, Pano (upper) and Kato (lower). If you like your literature, Koufonisia is also known as “the Robinson Crusoe destination”. The preferred way to navigate the area is by foot or cycling, as everything is within walking distance. The island has a museum and many sightseeing options.

Zakynthos

Zakynthos is an island in the Ionian Sea. It's considered the third largest Ionian island. This little jagged piece of land is off the southwest coast of Greece. It has rocky coves, and in one of these hidden pieces of paradise is Navagio Beach, a sandy little strip that is unforgettable. Famous as "Shipwreck Beach" and "Smuggler's Cove," this beach became a mini ship graveyard in 1983 after the ship Panagiotis plowed into the shore.

Greek islands: Mykonos

Over the next couple of posts, I will be sharing the top Greek Island vacation destinations. To kick it off, lets discuss Mykonos and its entertaining nightlife scene.

Mykonos, also known as 'The Island of the Winds,' is world-renowned for their vibrant nightlife. Little Venice and Paradise Beach are popular party destinations where clothing is optional, and the LGBT scene is major. There are male go-go dancers everywhere, and parties typically last all night. July and August are the primary months for tourism and the wildest parties.

Even if the nightlife scene is not your style, Mykonos is a “must see” location on your vacation to Greece.

One of the best locations for a “couples getaway” in Greece is Folegandros. Folegandros does not get the crowded tourist scene as most Greek towns do. Family vacation to Greece

Are you planning your next family destination? Greece is safe and welcoming. It has lovely seaside resorts and large hotel chains that make great family-friendly holiday destinations. If you are looking for fun, family-friendly facilities: playgrounds, kiddie pools, child entertainment programs, and sports all exist at the hotels next to the beach.

Crete is ultimately the number one recommendation for families traveling.

Crete is the biggest island of Greece, with a coastline spanning 1,046 miles. Crete provides hundreds of breathtakingly beautiful beaches. Summers are extremely popular due to the spectacular beaches, the traditional lifestyle of the locals, and the exhilarating natural elements. There is a lovely Caribbean-like place in Chania, and then there is the most exotic of the sandy Crete beaches, Balos. Balos Beach captivates visitors with its stunning natural beauty.

Another beach not to miss is the captivating Elafonissi Beach in Chania, at the westernmost part of Crete, along with the long, sandy beach of Falassarna. Looking for the perfect beach spot is easy for tourists. Nice, clean beaches are all over the island of Crete. You will find some beaches organized and some that are secluded, but you can guarantee that they're all pristine.

Cretan Cuisine...good and good for you!

I have been doing a lot of research lately on diets…gotta get bathing suit ready for these beach trips! Have you ever heard of the Greek Diet? It includes the twelve central "Pillar Foods," olive oil, yogurt, vegetables, beans, seafood, whole grains, wine, fruit, herbs and spices, coffee and tea, nuts, and seeds and chicken and eggs. This diet emulates a Mediterranean style of eating to help you quickly and healthily lose the extra weight. The Greek way of eating has been commended for its positive effects on your heart.

It's no secret that the best olives in the world are produced in Greece. Some of the most familiar Greek olives are the 'Black Olives' and 'Green Olives.' Similar to Greek olive oil, Greek olives contain one of the most fundamental elements from the famous Mediterranean Diet.

Cretan cuisine focuses on all-natural ingredients and can be enjoyed at any local tavern throughout the islands. Some dishes include Dakos, Gamopilafo, Mizithropita, and Apaki.
