To many sun-craving Americans from the north, Mexico means beaches, remote, serene, unspoiled beaches at that. Beaches which lie near sleepy little towns where people are friendly – or at least hidden stretches of sand far from the busy city life. Mexico has sure come a long way from the way it was some decades ago, but some uncrowded beaches are still a gem if you just make an effort to search for them. Good places to include are the Yucatan, Baja California, the southern Pacific coast and coastal islands.
The Yucatan Peninsula, which includes the Mexican states of Yucatan, Campeche and Quintana Roo, but also a part of Belize and Guatemala, has a tropical climate, with a rainy and muggy season from June to October, a relatively cool season from November to February, and a hot season from March to May, when the highest temperatures of the year are reached, with peaks of more than 40 °C (104 °F).
The Yucatan Peninsula is one of Mexico's go-to vacation destinations. Here, you will find a good stretch of coast along the Caribbean Sea called Riviera Maya, it offers just the right kid-friendly activities to balance lazy days basking in the sun. Snorkeling is a big thing here, so is sailing. If you are a curious nature lover, then put birdwatching and turtle nest observation on the itinerary. Make sure to hike up amid the ancient Mayan ruins to brush up on your history, too. Be sure to book an excursion to hike amid the ancient Mayan ruins for a bit of history, too. For a home base, a lot of families avoid lively Cancun and instead head south toward Cozumel or even further toward a more serene Tulum. There are several kid-friendly properties throughout the Yucatan Peninsula to choose from, depending on your family's priorities.
