Are you a beach person? Well then, Hawaii is the place to be! Here you can find beaches with white sand, black sand, red sand, and even green sand, as well as rocky beaches. There is also a beach on the island of Kauai with millions of small pieces of sea glass.

Imagine a lush, diverse landscape of towering mountains, waterfalls, razor-sharp ridges, rivers, caves, canyons, swamps, and stunning beaches. This place exists, and it is called Kauai. If you love nature, this destination is for you. Kauai is the oldest and northernmost of all eight major Hawaiian islands. About eight-hundred years ago, the first settlers to reach the island landed on a golden sand beach after an incredible 4000-kilometer journey from Tahiti in canoes. While fresh lava still adds real estate to Big Island in the south-east, Kauai has been crumbling for five million years. Kauai's nickname is The Garden Isle because with age comes real beauty.

The island of Hawaii is overflowing with beauty and uniqueness. There are a lot of hiking trails in Hawaii as well, from those that are ideal for beginners to more advanced trails for experienced backpackers.

Foods to Try:

There is a popular street treat in several parts of Mexico, it's called Elotes. It's made out of boiled or grilled corn and seasoned with a variety of toppings, ranging from the piquant to the tart. All at the same time, it's sweet, spicy, herbal, and sharp—a bite of this plays on a wide spectrum of flavors. Having a fear of corn getting stuck in between your teeth? Then, shredding the kernels off is an acceptable way of serving the dish called esquites. It's actually an easy peasy dish that takes little to no time in preparation. It's a staple that kitchen novices and veterans enjoy at any time in the coziness of their homes.

Cool Off in the Different Bodies of Water of the Yucatan

Are you an adventure seeker? Do you like diving, snorkeling, or kayaking? The Yucatan Peninsula has a variety of water features around its location and offers its visitors so many opportunities to cool down in its waters.

The following are some beaches you must visit while you are on your Yucatan vacation!

Akumal Beach

If you're fascinated with sea turtles, make your way to Akumal Beach to swim in the shallow waters where three different varieties of sea turtles live. A lifejacket is required, and lifeguards are always on duty since the waters have recently turned into a preserved area to protect the turtles.

Isla Holbox

We are all dependent on our digital devices, aren't we? How would you like a vacation where you can unplug yourself from the digital world? You can quickly recharge at CasaSandra, set on Holbox, a Mexican island off the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula that's known for its fantastic nature, endless sun and barefoot sensibility. The island is separated by a shallow lagoon from the mainland. It's also home to thousands of flamingos, pelicans, and other exotic bird species. If sharks don’t scare you, Isla Holbox is the place to see the lightly speckled whale sharks. Beware, these whale sharks are named appropriately, weighing up to 20,000lbs and reaching almost 30ft long!

Bacalar Lagoon

Bacalar Lagoon (Laguna Bacalar) is exquisitely lovely with near-pristine waters and has become a favorite destination. Grab your sunscreen and rent an inflatable kayak and head out on the Bacalar Lagoon to feel like the pirates of the 17th Century.

kayaking-rapidos-xulha.jpg

If you need a break from the salt water, go visit a cenote!

Cenotes

When a porous limestone bedrock collapses it forms Cenotes, these are natural swimming holes which reveals a secret subterranean world of groundwater pools. A lot of cave cenotes contain fresh water that has been carefully filtered by the earth, making them so clear and pure that you can see the marine life below. Open-air cenotes also have clear water, and often are home to vitamin- and mineral-rich algae that nourish and protect your skin. The Mayan villages surrounded these spiritual wells and believed that they can speak with the gods through them. Getting immersed in the clear waters with giant tropical trees hovering above will transport you back into prehistory.

#8 Swimming in a cenote.jpg

Dzitnup Cenote- For a quick dip to cool off, visit the Dzitnup cenote outside of Valladolid. This cavernous pool of freshwater is majestic and perhaps the purest water you will ever see since the limestone helps filter it through the underground rivers.

#10 Dive into a cenote or into the ocean.jpg

The Yucatán Peninsula is such a haven for divers because it offers cenotes to high-speed drift diving. Most of the dive sites are found off Riviera Maya and Cancún in the Caribbean Sea, but there are also unexplored reefs along the northern coast of the peninsula. One can find mesmerizing caverns off Riviera Maya and several healthy reeds near Cancún including a gorgeous underwater museum called MUSA as well. The offshore islands of Isla Mujeres and Cozumel are famous among divers for their pelagic migrations and open ocean drifts. You do not want to miss this opportunity to dive in the glassy cenotes located around the Yucatan. Diving in the Yucatan is a combination of boat dives and shore dives.

Yucatan...Mexico is OPEN and awaiting your arrival!

#15 A destination to truly disconnect from life.jpg

To many sun-craving Americans from the north, Mexico means beaches, remote, serene, unspoiled beaches at that. Beaches which lie near sleepy little towns where people are friendly – or at least hidden stretches of sand far from the busy city life. Mexico has sure come a long way from the way it was some decades ago, but some uncrowded beaches are still a gem if you just make an effort to search for them. Good places to include are the Yucatan, Baja California, the southern Pacific coast and coastal islands.

The Yucatan Peninsula, which includes the Mexican states of Yucatan, Campeche and Quintana Roo, but also a part of Belize and Guatemala, has a tropical climate, with a rainy and muggy season from June to October, a relatively cool season from November to February, and a hot season from March to May, when the highest temperatures of the year are reached, with peaks of more than 40 °C (104 °F).

The Yucatan Peninsula is one of Mexico's go-to vacation destinations. Here, you will find a good stretch of coast along the Caribbean Sea called Riviera Maya, it offers just the right kid-friendly activities to balance lazy days basking in the sun. Snorkeling is a big thing here, so is sailing. If you are a curious nature lover, then put birdwatching and turtle nest observation on the itinerary. Indulge in Turkish Cuisine!

After all of your sight-seeing, you are going to be hungry. Make sure you take time to enjoy the local Turkish cuisine!

Turkish cuisine rewards curiosity with time-honed flavors and some of the tastiest street foods in the Mediterranean. Traditional Turkish dishes include infamous meat-full skewers or kebabs, skillfully flavored with regional spices and dolma, which means "stuffed" and can apply to peppers, grape leaves, and even seafood.

10 - what you can expect to eat in turkey.jpg

Visit Istanbul's spice bazaar, and you'll see why Turkey is famous for its spices. Stacks and stacks of freshly ground spices line the aisles of this historical bazaar and wow visitors with their aromas and colors. The use of spices and herbs is essential in Turkish cooking. Turkish cuisine is known for its bold flavors and rich taste. Spices like cumin, mint, and oregano play an important role in bringing out the flavor of the main ingredient rather than hiding it behind sauces.

Legend has it that one almost 500 years ago, a Sultan ordered a baker to create a delicious sweet to help solve a quarrel with his mistress, and thus the Turkish delight was born. Now one of Turkey's most famous exports, the Turkish Delight recipe has remained almost unchanged since the day of its creation. These small, fragrant cubes of jelly are traditionally flavored with rosewater, orange flower water, or citrus fruit juice and heavily dusted with icing sugar. Be sure to pick up some Turkish Delights during your next trip to Istanbul!

Turkish Coffee

Turkish coffee is famous for its robust flavor and ceremonial method of preparation. Introduced to the country in 1555 and derived from the Arabica bean, Turkish coffee is composed of a very fine grind. Sugar is added during the brewing process, not after, so the need for a serving spoon is eliminated while cream is almost never added to Turkish coffee. In some regions, much like with tea leaf reading, your fortune can be told by the coffee grinds left in the cup.

Turkish Culture

Istanbul, Turkey has a population of more than 15 million. Interesting fact: part of the city lies in Europe, and the other part is in Asia. Istanbul is both modern and traditional and home to many civilizations and people.

You should respect Islamic customs while in Turkey, as well as greet visitors by shaking hands.

henna-2545152_960_720.jpg

Religion: Islam is the predominant religion in Turkey. It's OK to dress informally in Istanbul, but when visiting mosques, female tourists should cover their hair with scarves and wear long tops that are long-sleeved. And males and females should wear pants that come to their knees.

mosque attire 2.jpg

Language: Turkish is the official language, but many people in Istanbul also speak English.

National clothing of the Turkish culture

Money: Lira is the official currency in Turkey, and you'll get more bang for your buck if you use it. The euro currency is also accepted there.

One of the best ways to experience a new culture is through the traditions of local song and dance.

Entertainment: The distinct cultural values of Turkey are ever prevalent in the country's native music and traditional performances. Formed centuries ago, Turkish music reflects on the history of the country and can seem quite complex and even emotional at times.

The traditions of music and dance are now passed down through the generations, and the Turkish welcome the opportunity to share this part of their culture with you.

Experience Turkey...no matter who you are traveling with!

No matter who you are traveling with, there is something for everyone to do and see while in Turkey! Whether you are an outdoors person (avid hiker), adventurer, like to experience what locals do (shopping), or just like to relax on the beach, Turkey has got you covered!

Be sure to hike around Red/Rose Valley in Cappadocia!

Be sure to hike around Red/Rose Valley in Cappadocia!

Hiking Opportunities:

Rose Valley: You might get a little lost hiking in the Red and Rose Valleys of Cappadocia — the signage is unclear — but the scenery will be worth it. There is the natural beauty of blue skies, green valleys and red and white rock, with some graffiti sprinkled in between. You’ll be tired, but in a good way, after exploring these beautiful paths.

red-valley-cappadocia.jpg

Ihlara Valley: You will also want to explore the peaceful Ihlara Valley. Commune with the birds and frogs that feed on the river that runs through it. But the real treat of hiking this valley is the rest stop that offers a place for you to sit and enjoy the scenery. And the family that operates it even serves Turkish tea! It's delicious!

ihlara valley.jpg

Pigeon Valley: This hike takes you through the popular Pigeon Valley, Uchisar Castle and White Valley. You’ll be treated to the sight of phallic rock formations at the end of the walk through White Valley in an area called Love Valley. Rock columns dot the landscape and the massive structures are breath-taking. Be sure to bring your camera!

Other Things to Experience While in Turkey…

Hot-Air Balloon Ride: You must take a balloon ride while in Cappadocia! This is an experience best done at dawn. A minibus will take you from your hotel to the boarding spot, where you’ll hop on a balloon with more than a dozen other passengers. Start your day gliding past treetops and canyon walls. It will be one of the highlights of your trip and an experience to remember.

hot-air-balloons-4561269_960_720.jpg

Shopping: At the crossroads of Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, Turkey has long been a hub for trading, bringing exotic goods and spices to the area. The influence of foreign cultures greatly impacted the design and culture of Turkey. Walk through the bazaars, and you'll see the global influence of the region's now distinctive designs. These markets are the best place to pick up souvenirs for your friends or even items to decorate your home. Pick up lamps, rugs, and coffee sets to bring a little bit of Turkey back home with you.

istanbul-246968_960_720.jpg

Beaches: Imagine lying on a pristine beach under the warm Mediterranean sun. The largely untouched Turkish beach of Kaputaş is just as you’d imagine. This small stretch of golden sand is ticket quietly at the bottom of a steep gorge looking out over the mesmerizing blue waters of the Mediterranean. Getting to Kaputaş Beach can be a bit tricky since you have to head down a long set of steps. However, the stunning views and warm water are certainly worth the trip!

There are SO MANY THINGS TO SEE while visiting Turkey!

Have you ever been intrigued by Turkey and ALL it has to offer to its visitors? I know I have. Today I will be telling you about some of the places YOU MUST SEE while touring Turkey.

  1. Hagia Sophia

Once the largest cathedral in the world, the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, Turkey, has stood for more than 1500 years along the banks of the Bosporus Strait. Soaring 160 feet high, with a diameter of 131 feet, the grand feature of the Hagia Sophia is its large central dome. While the church has been destroyed twice due to riots, the dome was destroyed a third time during an earthquake. To fortify the interior after the earthquake, columns from the ruined Temple of Artemis, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, were used inside the church.

2. Galata Tower

The Galata Tower is one of Istanbul's most iconic visuals. It is the highest and oldest tower in Istanbul. The tower was built in the 14th century as part of a defense wall and was heavily damaged in 1509 due to an earthquake. The tower has a long history of being a prison, observatory, watch post, and much more. Today the Galata Tower is a popular attraction for visitors and offers panoramic views of the city.

3. Blue Mosque (Sultan Ahmed Camii)

Also known as the Sultan Ahmed Camii, the Blue Mosque in Istanbul is one of the most majestic Ottoman mosques in all of Turkey. The mosque's wonderfully curvaceous exterior features a cascade of domes and six slender minarets, making it immediately recognizable. Finished in 1616, visitors today have to venture inside the Blue Mosque to see how this famous building got its nickname. The interior is made up of over 20,000 handmade ceramic Iznik tiles that decorate the walls featuring many different tulips, roses, carnations, and lily designs.

Greek Spirits

Ouzo

Ouzo

Greece has traditional spirits that the natives like to drink, including ouzo, masticha, and raki, among other types of unique liquors.

There is an old Greek saying, "ouzo makes the spirit,” and this is especially true in Greece. Ouzo is, by far, Greece's most famous alcoholic beverage. It's a sweet, strong alcoholic drink similar to a liqueur, which is made from the by-products of grapes after they've been used for wine. Drinking Ouzo in Greece is a cultural ritual that has its own special time and place, usually in the late afternoon or early evening, and always served cold with a small plate of food. In Greece, drinking Ouzo is just as much a part of the culture and the lifestyle as is Greek mythology and olive oil.

Acropolis Theatre

Built at the base of the Acropolis, the ancient Odeon of Herodes Atticus amphitheater is one of the best places to experience a live classical theatre performance. This ancient theater was built in the Roman times, in about 161 A.D. by the Roman philosopher, teacher, and politician Herodes Atticus. The seats and the stage have since been renovated, and today you can attend the Athens Art Festival, musical concerts, and classical tragedies under the night sky and enjoy a marvelous acoustic experience.

Acropolis and Parthenon...Greek Architecture you must see

Acropolis

Acropolis

The Acropolis is one of the most important sites of the ancient world and was the most important location in Greek mythology. Atop the hill sat a temple complex that included the temples to worship all major gods. The Acropolis was chosen in ancient times for its prime location high above the city. From there, the temples were visible from anywhere in Athens. Today some temple ruins remain, including the most famous of them all, the Parthenon.

Parthenon

Parthenon

The Parthenon is perhaps one of the most famous ruins in all of Greece. Built almost 3,000 years ago, the temple was constructed for Athena, the goddess of war, who was also considered the patron of Athens. Each side of the Parthenon shares a story with hand-carved statues. One side shows the Greeks and centaurs. Other areas show Athena at birth, fighting Poseidon for Athens, and Greeks parading for Athena. The Parthenon has since suffered severe damage and decay, but the importance of the temple in ancient Greece is not lost!
